BORN IN SIN

14 Feb

Happy Valentine’s Day, Everyone!

Did your sweetie spoil you with breakfast in bed, flowers and chocolate? I hope so. And I also hope you’re having a fantastic day.

And since today we celebrate love and make/receive presents here my gift to you. I’m delighted to reveal the cover for my new historical drama titled BORN IN SIN (release date TBA).

FINAL-low resolution for web

Is this not gorgeous? I never believed in love at first sight until I saw this drawing by the incredible german artist Eve Ventrue. She creates covers for several authors among them J.S. Chancellor,  Amber Argyle,  and Suze Reese. She also collaborates with Applibot Inc. Japan for the “Legend of the Cryptids” and KLab Inc. Japan as well.

Eve’s talent is out of this world–no exaggeration. If angels walk among us, Eve is one of them. Never saw so much raw emotions encompassed in a drawing as in Eve’s art. Her portfolio can be found here. When I contacted her I have to admit that I was beyond nervous if she’d say yes to my offer. Several email later Eve agreed to sell me the drawing and here it is. I hope one day to interview her and reveal more of her work.

As for the story, for those of you familiar with my short story I Was Here–Before You Came published under Prose by Design‘s umbrella, you might recall along with Ilias, the main hero, five other brave men joined him in his quest for revenge against Emperor Traianus. BORN IN SIN is Zyraxes’ story.

BLURB:

Loathing the thought of his beloved Oriana in the arms of another man, fearless Zyraxes delivers death upon the Roman enemy. With only the rugged land as his bed and the sky as his blanket, trouble finds him often.

Summoned to aid Oriana’s father in the war against two powerful enemies—one of them Oriana’s savage husband—Zyraxes proves himself worthy of more than just noble titles and coin. But he wants none of it. What he wants is her.

When Zyraxes discovers a broken and nearly dead Oriana, though forbidden, he disregards her father’s orders to leave her to her death, and instead chooses to protect and conceal her. Will saving her be enough to win her heart? Will his part royal lineage make him worthy of her love?

I would absolutely love to hear your opinions about both the cover and the blurb. Like it/ hate it? Interesting/boring? What do you think?

Kat Flannery’s CHASING CLOVERS is the perfect mix of sweet romance and Wild West adventure, with a generous dash of emotion.

Mail order bride, Livy Green, is desperate to escape the memories of her past. John Taylor will never love another woman again, but his children need a mother. Will they learn to trust each other, or will their pasts interfere?

Longing to escape the awful memories and the saloon she once sang in, Livy Green lies about her past so she can be a wife to John Taylor and step mother to his two young children. Overwhelmed by the task, she struggles to put her resentment aside and love them as her own.

John loved his first wife and is still heartbroken over the loss, but he needs a mother for his children. When his distant and unfriendly mail order bride arrives, he begins to doubt his decision though one glance into Livy’s terrified green eyes tells him he can’t turn his back on her.

As Livy’s past catches up with her and suspicious accidents begin to happen on the ranch, she is tempted to come clean and tell John the truth. But will he send her back if he does? Or will they forever be CHASING CLOVERS?

Dreaming Of Summer Blog Hop

26 Nov

As an Arizonan by choice I do not dream of summer. I have it ALL year long, or at least the sunshine. But that didn’t stop me from signing up to participate in Dreaming Of Summer Blog Hop organized by Kathy @ I’m A Reader Not A Writer and helped this time by Me, My Shelf and I.

For this hop the one obligatory rule is to host a giveaway for summer/beach read. That simple. Wearing my swim suit, a ton of sunscreen and flip-flops off I went to the beach called Amazon browsing for books. And one of the first books that popped on my browser was… Vlad All Over.

It caught my attention because Vlad is a famous Romanian name (Vlad the Impaler) but also because, in reading its blurb it says the main heroine (an American schoolteacher) goes on a trip to… Romania, the land of Dracula. Wait a minute! I was born and raised in the land of Dracula (and no, I haven’t seen vampires growing up, in case you wondered…). Now with all these tidbits, I had to know more about the book and started reading it through the look inside feature (love Amazon for this!). Needless to say it’s on my TBR list and decided to assign it as the prize for this giveaway.

Based on Amazon Best Seller Rank this book lands at # 11 in Books which means it’s a winner. And the plot happens during summer vacation, which complies with the hop’s rule.

So, for your chance to win an electronic version of Vlad All Over all you have to do is FOLLOW THIS BLOG BY EMAIL by clicking on the button to the right called “Sign me up!” (atop all images) AND leave your answer to the question:

What was your favorite summer read this year?

Mine was The American Sniper by Chris Kyle.

Good luck!

Thankful For Books Giveaway Hop

7 Nov

What nourishes your soul or imagination? What makes you dream? For me books, movies and music are constant companions. The sun shining in a child’s eyes, the breeze rustling through leaves and the water cascading over rocks. It’s the love I offer and the love I receive.

And for all of that and more I’m grateful. And since today we celebrate books with the Thankful For Books Giveaway Hop organized by Kathy @ I’m A Reader Not A Writer, helped by Tristi @ Tristi Pinkston I decided what better way to show my appreciation than to give my own books some TLC.

On 11/14 I will announce three winners  (US ONLY) as following:

Two bookmarks and one autographed paperback of my debut novel Hidden Heart (click on the cover for blurb and Goodreads rating)

Two bookmarks and one autographed paperback of A World Apart (click on the cover for blurb and Goodreads rating)

The short story I Was Here—Before You Came, part of the summer anthology It’s A Love Thing will be gifted as an e-copy. (click on the cover for blurb and Goodreads rating)

Enter the form below for your chance to win. No liking, befriending or following necessary. Just your love for books is enough <3

5.0 out of 5 Stars on Amazon for “Sun God Seeks…Surrogate”!

AVAILABLE AT:

Amazon | B&N | Kobo

BLURB:

When 24-year-old Penelope learns of a new miracle drug that could cure her ailing mother, it’s the answer to her prayers. Until she sees the cost. But for every door that closes, a window opens. In this case, the window calls herself Cimil, and she’s quite possibly the most insane person Penelope’s ever met. Could it be because this complete stranger just offered Penelope one million dollars to carry her wealthy brother’s baby?

But Cimil’s brother isn’t your everyday millionaire. In fact, he gives new meaning to the word hot.

EXCERPT:

Wondering which screw in her head had come loose this time, twenty-four-year-old Emma Keane strapped a parachute to her back in preparation for yet another fun-filled jungle mission.

“Dammit! Stop wiggling!” she barked over her shoulder. “And that had better be your flashlight!”

Well, actually, it was a cranky, rather large warrior named Brutus strapped to her back and wearing the parachute because she had yet to find time for skydiving lessons.

Dork.

In any case, looking like a ridiculous, oversized baby kangaroo wasn’t enough to stop her from making this nocturnal leap into enemy territory—Maaskab territory. She had scores to settle.

Emma sucked in a deep breath, the roar of the plane’s large engines and Brutus’s growls making it difficult to find her center—the key to winning any battle. And not freak out.

Funny. If someone had told her a year ago that she’d end up here, an immortal demigoddess engaged to the infamous God of Death and War, she would have said, “Christ! Yep! That toootally sounds about right.”

Why the hell not? She’d lived the first twenty-two years of her life with Guy—a nickname she’d given her handsome god—obsessed with his seductive voice, a voice only she could hear. Turned out, after they finally met face-to-face, their connection ran blood deep. Universe deep, actually. A match made by fate.

Emma rubbed her hands together, summoning the divine power deep within her cells. One blast with her fingertips and she could split a man right down the middle.

“Careful where you put those,” Guy said, cupping himself.

Emma gazed up at his smiling face and couldn’t help but admire the glorious, masculine view. Sigh. She knew she’d been born to love him, flaws—enormous ego and otherworldly bossiness—and all.

His smile melted away. “Please change your mind, my sweet. Stay on the plane, and let me do your fighting.”

“Can’t do that,” she replied. “The Maaskab took my grandmother, and I’m going to be the one to get her back. Even if I have to kill Tommaso to do it.”

Guy shook his head. “No. You are to let me deal with him.”

Emma felt her immortal blood boil. She’d trusted Tommaso once, and he’d betrayed her. Almost gotten her killed, too. But she’d known—well, she’d thought—it wasn’t Tommaso’s fault. He’d been injected with liquid black jade, an evil substance that could darken the heart of an angel. That’s why, after he’d been captured and mortally wounded, she’d begged the gods to cure him.

Then she did the unthinkable: she’d put her faith in him again.

Stupid move.

He’d turned on her a second time, the bastard. Yes, his betrayal—done of his own free will—was her prize on that fateful night almost one year ago when her grandmother showed up on their doorstep in Italy, leading an army of evil Maaskab priests, her mind clearly poisoned.

“If Tommaso hadn’t helped her escape, we could’ve saved her,” she said purely to vent, because she really wanted to cry. But the fiancée of the God of Death and War didn’t cry. Especially in front of the hundred warriors riding shotgun on the plane tonight.

Okay, maybe one teeny tiny tear while no one’s looking.

“Do not give up hope, Emma.” Guy clutched her hand. “And do not forget…whatever happens, I love you. Until the last ray of sunlight. Until the last flicker of life inhabits this planet.”

Brutus groaned and rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed by the sappy chatter.

Emma elbowed him in the ribs. “Shush! And how can you, of all people, be uncomfortable with a little affection? Huh? You bunk with eight dudes every night. That’s gross by the way. Not the dude part. I’m cool with that. But eight, big, sweaty warriors all at once? Yuck. So don’t judge me because I’m into the one-man-at-a-time rule. That’s messed up, Brutus.”

Brutus growled and Guy chuckled.

In truth, Emma didn’t know what Brutus was into or how he and his elite team slept, but she loved teasing him. She figured that sooner or later she’d find the magic words to get Brutus to speak to her.

No luck yet.

Accepting a temporary defeat, she shrugged and turned her attention back to the task at hand. She took one last look at her delicious male—seven feet of solid muscle with thick blue-black waves of hair and bronzed skin. Sigh. “Okay. I’m ready,” she declared boldly. “Let’s kill some Scabs and get my granny!”

She glanced over her other shoulder at Penelope, their newest family member. Her dark hair was pulled into a tight ponytail that accentuated the anger simmering in her dark green eyes. Pissed would be a serious understatement.

Emma didn’t blame her. What a cluster.

“Ready?” Emma asked.

“You better believe it,” Penelope replied. “These clowns picked the wrong girl to mess with.”

Guy frowned as they leaped from the plane into the black night.

95 *5-Star* Reviews at Amazon for “Accidentally Married to…a Vampire”

BLURB:

“If you love her, set her free. If she comes back, she’s yours. If she doesn’t…Christ! Stubborn woman! Hunt her down, and bring her the hell back; she’s still yours according to vampire law.”–Niccolo DiConti, General of the Vampire Queen’s Army.

THE DETERMINED VAMPIRE: Niccolo DiConti has faithfully served as leader of Her Majesty’s army for over a millennium, but he’d rather sunbathe in the Sahara than spend another grueling day under his demented queen’s command. However, no one has ever left her side and lived to tell. So when a powerful goddess prophesies he will meet his salvation—a human woman he must turn into a vampire with her consent—he eagerly rises to the challenge. After all, how hard could it be to seduce a human female into taking the immortal plunge? Harder than he thinks. Because his mate won’t be born for another three centuries, and when he wakes up in the goddess’ tomb, not only is his life a mess, but his destined female isn’t about to settle for a coldhearted vampire. Can he win her over before it’s too late? Not if his enemies have anything to do with it.

AN UNWILLING BRIDE: On the night Helena Strauss meets the fierce, devastatingly handsome vampire who saves her life in the jungles of Mexico, she knows her world will be forever changed. Because an attraction this mind blowing only comes along once in a lifetime—or existence. And when he claims she is his one true mate, destined to be his for all eternity, it’s a fairytale come true. So what if her knight in shining armor is a vampire? Nobody’s perfect. But discovering the powerful, overbearing immortal doesn’t “do love”? Deal breaker. Helena will flee and set out to accomplish the impossible…sever the otherworldly bond between them. And it turns out, Helena is just the leverage Niccolo’s enemies need to break the mighty warrior and wipe out his people.

Until then see below Marissa’s guest post. For a chance to win one of the 5 e-copies of iFeel leave your answer to the following question:

What hunts Liv Christianni?

GUEST POST BY MARISSA CARMEL

You plan, God laughs.  This is the story of my life.

There are ideals and expectations I assume everyone has; whom you will marry, what your career will be like, where you will raise your kids. And yes, I had all those ideologies in my head, except mine were more like, have a career, don’t get married and absolutely no kids. Boy, was I wrong. Today I am married with two kids, and living in a state I only passed through on occasion. And my career? Well let’s just say, I have more than one, and I never saw that coming. Who needs more than one career? Apparently me. To make a long story short, I started my first career as a logistician, yawn, I won’t bore you with the details. The second career came shortly after.
I’ve always loved to write. Always. My imagination constantly runs away with itself, and I am without doubt following it. My best subject was creative writing. So when I would write, it was primarily for me (or a good grade). As time went on though, I found myself imagining more and more and wanting to create, but my life was so busy, and what would it get me anyway? Until one day my mother- in- law dropped a bomb that would change my life. She was talking to one of my husband’s cousins who was complaining about getting her college degree (she was already married with 4 kids. Yikes. I’d be complaining too.) And my MIL, the wise woman that she is simply said, honey, time is going to go by anyway, so you might as well do it. Well, it felt like the sky fell on me. The advice wasn’t even directed at me, but it resonated. I started writing that night. And never stopped.

My husband once asked where my creativity comes from, and in return I asked him if he ever heard voices in his head.  His reply, I needed to see a shrink. I told him a keyboard and a curser is the best therapy. I have always loved the supernatural, thanks in part to my mom; Charmed was one of our favorite shows to watch together and still is. So when I started writing, it only felt natural that it took on a paranormal feel. But I didn’t want to write about vampires or werewolves or really anything that had been done. I’m like that; I always tend to steer towards the opposite of popular and then proceed to make fun of it. So I started researching, and brainstorming, and concocting my mix of love, humor and emotion. Liv was already an entity in my head, festering. I’d often imagine a dark haired girl with amethyst eyes, suffering and alone. When I finally established who she really was, and what kind of supernatural elements she would possess, (an Empath-someone who can feel the emotions of others- with active abilities) I asked myself, what would it be like for someone like that to carry the world’s emotions? Torrential I thought. What would it be like for her to fall in love? Even worse than torrential. The story evolved rather quickly after that, but I didn’t rush it. It took me a little over a year to write, over two years to edit. I learned a lot about my writing style during that time, developed my voice and really tried to give it a life-like feel.

So here I am almost four years later, a husband, 2 kids, and a home in what feels like a foreign country; a daytime career and a nighttime career, all jumbling together, fighting for a piece of my time. Go hard or go home, my husband and I always joke, if we have a story, it needs a theme and that is it. I wouldn’t change it though, not for anything. Life is nothing, if not a venture – (I have no idea who said that).

REVIEW Tool Belt Defender by Carla Cassidy

14 Jan

This book was a copy provided by the NetGalley for an honest review. After being drawn in by the catchy title, sexy cover, and reading the blurb I desperately wanted to like it. It’s a romance, it’s a light, easy read. What’s not to like?

The story is “No Strings Attached'” meets “Friends with Benefits.” Beautiful troubled girl Brittany Grayson meets sexy, hunky guy with baggage, Alex Crawford. They both have many reasons why they shouldn’t be together.

Brittany is a kidnapping and abuse victim, having survived four months of mental torture, yet her actions are many times at war with this past. She’s a former deputy but I didn’t feel that her vocabulary or actions give much support to her having had this career. A few instances are: she lets Alex go out to check the windows to see if someone came inside her home, she calls her brother (true, he was the town’s sheriff) instead of 9-1-1 when she sees someone outside her kitchen window, and she gives up her gun in response to the kidnapping. This last seems particularly at odds with both her previous career and with her kidnapping. To me, someone that has been a victim–no matter what type of abuse–would likely not give up something that makes them feel in control, or at least gives a feeling of protection. Throughout her journey a masked face appears outside her window, or random creepy messages appear and disappear from her house, but unfortunately fail to create the kind of intensity needed to make me fear for her life.

As a result of the kidnapping, Brittany is described as someone more insightful, more mature, stronger than before. Her behavior–staying in her home, watching TV, or watching Alex, the guy she hired to build a deck behind her house–doesn’t show enough of the change. She also spends too much time networking with strangers on the internet, which seems odd for not only a former deputy, but for a victim of a violent crime.

I felt there was too much time spent on explaining why Brittany and Alex shouldn’t be together rather than giving the reader reasons why they should. I might have been more invested in their relationship if I’d been given more of that.

I applaud Ms. Cassidy’s effort to write this story, for which I give 3 stars because I believe in her and would like to reward her obviously hard work. I look forward to seeing her future efforts as she continues to improve with her writing.
