I met Lee Ann during my virtual book tour for my second novel and was really excited to find out she’s a fellow author. I take advantage of her stopping by with her latest release, a war romance titled In The Shadow Of War to interview her. Lee Ann has brought a copy of her novel for a lucky winner. All you have to do is leave your email address in the next 7 days in the comments section.
Now to the actual interview.
Lee Ann, I’m so happy to introduce you and your work to my followers. With so many published novels under your belt, how do you react to a bad review?
I try to ignore them – sure, they sting a little but I do my best to just move forward. You can’t dwell on them. If there’s constructive criticism, I try to learn from it.
How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
I bought a bottle of good champagne (a weakness of mine) and toasted the accomplishment with my husband.
Where do you get your inspiration for your stories?
I grew up on stories. I was the child who sat at the feet of the elders and listened. So many of my ideas come from those years but others come from the world around me. The idea for my just finished and submitted novel, “Devlin’s Grace” came from seeing a man on a motorcycle.
Can you see yourself in any of your characters? Which one and why?
I think there’s a little of me in every character but the one most like me is probably Angel in my upcoming release (June 3) Guy’s Angel.
What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Never give up. Try to develop patience (an area I’m still working on myself) and always be willing to improve and learn.
What are your interests outside of writing?
Reading, gardening, family history and travel.
What do you do to promote your books?
I utilize every possible place, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedN, Yahoo groups, blogging (my blogs as well as guest blogs), virtual book tours, interviews, local appearances, and I even print up flyers to post on bulletin boards in my area.
What can you tell us about your latest release In The Shadow of War?
It’s a World War II era romance set in the small town where I now live. In the 1940’s there was an Army training facility just outside town, Camp Crowder, which also happens to be the “real” Camp Swampy from the “Beetle Bailey” comic strip. A lot of real life romances came from the soldiers and the local girls. This is the love story I imagined with a recruit from Brooklyn, New York and a local first year teacher.

I didn’t realize there were so many books! I love the 1940’s. They are my favorite period in time for style and music. I love the premise for this book. Sounds very real.

You’re right, Mel. Lee Ann has a TON of books one better than the other. I especially like the premise for this one because of the war background. I’m a softy for all-things-army ;)))

Looks like a good book. It was an exciting time for young women who previously only met men from their local area.
