Lovers of gothic and paranormal genre look no further for I give you the best-selling author of gothic romance, fellow Arizonan author Deena Remiel. Her work is absolutely stunning, with characters out of this world and yet so humans for their feelings, qualms and stories. Other than me bombarding her with questions, Deena brought one e-copy of Brethren Beginnings.
For your chance to win her book read the interview below and answer the question: Who are the main characters of her upcoming release Elixir?
And now to Deena’s interview:
Deena, thank you for stopping by . Tell us what’s a day in the life of author Deena Remiel.
Well, depending on the time of year, I could be waking at 5:30 am, getting ready for school and hopping on the computer to do some promo and check emails. Then I go to school, come home, get back on the computer for more connecting with people and then write posts or more on my stories. I make dinner and eat with the family. Then it’s back on the computer! During the summer, I wake up a little later, but spend most of the time on the computer writing and promoting books that are already out.
I get easily distracted therefore when I write I need complete silence, door closed. The only person allowed in my office is Bella, my dog. When you write do you need complete silence around you or noise?
Intriguing question! I’ve spent the last couple of years in total silence while writing. This summer, I had a crisis of place. Nothing was working for me because it was too loud or cramped. My aunt offered me her casita (guest house), and it cleared up! There are occasions when music helps a little, but mostly, silence is golden.
Girl, take me when you go there next time. Promise not to say “beep” 🙂
I have all these ideas and voices in my head, but for some reason I struggle sometimes to put them on the paper. Do you find yourself at one point or another at a loss for words?
Only when I speak to people! LOL
How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
Besides running around my school like a lunatic and screaming? We went for dinner and had a decadent dessert.
What hobbies do you have?
I love to scrapbook, listen to music, take pictures, and read. 🙂
I’m not identifying myself with any of my characters, yet each one of them has a part of me. Can you see yourself in any of your characters? Which one and why?
I’m totally Emma, in Trinity. She’s fiercely devoted to her daughter. She doesn’t trust easily which leads her to impulsive decisions. She doesn’t make small errors, but when she makes a mistake, it’s usually a whopper. Her fortitude is great and her fears were my fears.
What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Finish what you start. When you begin a story, finish it! Having many projects with no endings is not effective. Better to see one project to completion than having many projects and none of them done.
What has been the toughest criticism you’ve been given as an author? What has been the best component?
The toughest criticism I’ve been given would be about the incredible amount of head hopping I used to do. I wrote like my favorite authors, not realizing that the style and rules had changed. The best part of being edited and reviewed is when I see comments that speak to the emotional buy-in on their part.
Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?
For ease of travel, I love my e-reader. BUT, I love paper. The smell, the feel, the sound of the pages turning. Nothing beats it for me.
What projects are you working on and when should we expect another release? In a few words what is this story about.
Elixxir is the 3rd book in the Brethren Series, my paranormal romance series. That should be released soon.
Callie has secrets, too many to count.
For twenty years she’s been living a lie as Callie Worthington, in the Witness Protection Program, hiding from the monster who brutally murdered her parents for possession of the Elixxir of Life. Unsuccessful before, their killer has found her and will stop at nothing to acquire the Elixxir. And see her dead.
Nathanael has a couple of secrets, too. One in particular blurs the line separating Good from Evil. As an immortal Brethren Warrior, though, he must retrieve the Elixxir before it falls into the wrong hands. Just how he’s going to get it out of Callie’s is the big question.
Tempers flare and passion ignites as Callie and Nathanael reach out to each other with their own hidden agendas. She needs his protection. He needs the Elixxir. Will their fiery passion lead to lasting love, or will their web of secrets and lies ultimately destroy them both? Secrets, lies, and love’s loyalties tested. What price for immortality? What price for love?
I just started a new series, as well, called The Book Waitress. It’s urban fantasy/horror romance. Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Indiana Jones and the Librarian. The first book will be released very soon.
Camille Dutton learned early in life Satan was not to be trifled with. Escaping his evil clutches as a child, he’s come back with a vengeance for her now.
Derek Galloway’s inquisitive nature has led him to be an award-winning investigative reporter and straight into the path of pure evil.
When a child vanishes from a sleepy island town, Camille, its subdued librarian, becomes embroiled in Derek’s investigation. A satanic cult has plans for the child, while Satan has plans for Camille and the rest of the world. Amidst evil of the most supernatural and human kind, Derek and Camille find a shred of light and goodness in the form of their budding relationship.
First in the Book Waitress Series, the portal between Hell and Earth will be torn asunder, and it will take everything Camille and Derek have and then some to close it. Satan won’t go down easy, but nothing worth everything ever comes without a price.
