Fall Into Fantasy Giveaway Hop

15 Oct

Once upon a time … Kathy  @ I’m A Reader Not A Writer, helped by Dorine @ The Write Path organized Fall Into Fantasy Giveaway Hop.  As the title suggests this giveaway features fantasy books and runs between 10/16 – 10/21 with my winner announcement  on 10/22.

I’m not a fantasy genre fan (sorry), but this is not about what I like, but what you like. So I went on a quest, checking out books on Amazon that would be of interest to you. And after a long search I found 2 books, as part of a series (the 3rd one will come out next year, according to the author’s site).

So, here I give you:

Book 1.

In a future where ignorance has destroyed the world that we know, humans are slaves and Mages – advanced beings with abilities beyond everyday reach – rule the land.
Avalon is one such Mage. Barely eighteen years of age, she wields the gift of fire yet she is unable to control it. She leaves her family in the dead of night and heads to the city of Frost Arch, her future seemingly grim. Will Avalon be able to overcome the trials that befall her? Will she be able to save the ones she loves and stay strong within herself?
Time will tell.

Book 2.

Avalon has returned to Mortlock to find her home destroyed, and her family missing. They have been taken by The Realm for harboring an illegal human, Avalon’s sister.
Desperate to find her family, Avalon travels across the country to the Headquarters of the Realm, with Healer Jack Greenwood, and animal companion Hawthorne.
Their friendship is tested when Jack is reunited with his estranged father, and falls under a mysterious beauty’s spell.
Will Jack abandon Avalon during her quest?
And is Hawthorne really one-of-a-kind?

What do you have to do to win these books? Simple: FOLLOW THIS BLOG BY EMAIL by clicking on the button to the right called “Sign me up!” (atop all images) AND leave your answer to the question: WHICH FANTASY CHARACTER YOU DON’T LIKE?

I don’t really like werewolves. I’ve read too many books that have these shapeshifters that are whiny, angry, and not likeable.

There isn’t one that I hate or anything, just random characters that I come across that I just don’t fall in love with. Can’t think of any off the top of my head though. LOL.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

Richard’s girlfriend Jessica from Neverwhere always rubbed me wrong. And I am also going to say that Katniss in Book 2 of the Hunger Games trilogy got a bit silly and spent too much to the time hysterical.

I follow via e-mail and a fantasy character I do not like is …well, one is definitely Seth from “Glow” by Amy Kathleen Ryan. Thank you :] …actually, he’s not much of a fantasy character but he’s one of the few characters who left a lasting bad impression …

LOL, I guess I’m kinda weird because I don’t like Harry Potter. Well, I guess I could actually say I didn’t like anyone in the book I read, or the movies that I’ve been forced to see.

Oh come on, Snape redeemed himself at the end! And, he always made the books interesting even when he was being nasty.
The character I really can’t stand is Lokesh from the Tiger’s Curse series.

As a generalization I don’t like those characters that are not just evil but are so cruel that they are painful to read about, for me there is a line between the more common evil character who we all love to hate and the one that we are scared of, and I’m not too fond of the second.

  16. charmandluck October 16, 2012 at 10:40 am #

Email subscriber. I haven’t read enough fantasy to have a character I don’t like, but I’d like to read a little fantasy now that you’ve peaked my interest.

I don’t like Luce from the Fallen series…always too tortured and weak for my taste, and she just kinda bored me!

I’m not a big Fey fan. Faries are all the same. No iron, got glimmer, etc. I find nothing unique or fun about them

  20. zaraalexis October 16, 2012 at 6:28 pm #

Mmm…I really don’t like Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. I know I should be compassionate, but I just can’t look at him. He frightens me! Thanks for the giveaway!

Since “fantasy” covers a large range of books, it’s incredibly hard to choose just one! Without some of the characters that people dislike, a lot of the books would fall flat. For instance… President Snow from the Hunger Games series. I disliked him because he made me so angry, but without him as a character, you don’t really have a series.

Thanks for a great giveaway! 🙂

I cant think of a character I dont like. But I can think of 2 series that I have to force myself to get through, 1. Is Fallen and 2 is The House of Night Series, I just cant see how they are still going with those! >_< I loved the first few but.. its getting wayy out of hand.

I really hated Evie from Paranormalcy by Kiersten White. It was the first time I wanted to enter in the book and strangle the main character. I was expecting something else. But I enjoyed the other characters and the story.
Thank you for making it international. (^_^)

I have to agree with the others about Dolores Umbridge. I can’t even watch the movie anymore because she pisses me off. lol Other than that, it’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just that they’re overplayed now. Vampires. I like specific vampires. But vampires as a whole? Been there, done that.

There are so many but I would have to say Cronus from Gena Showlater’s LOTU series, Artemis, Zeus & other Greeks from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters and for some reason trolls are weird to me lol

I never could stand Luce from the fallen series, she is one of the weakest heroines in the paranormal/fantasy genre that I have read in a long time. She is also irredeemably stupid and a stalker.

I’m a fan of the fantasy genre. I don’t think there are any fantasy creatures that I don’t like. I love vamps, werewolves/shifters, zombies, demons, angels. If I go by what I’ve read lately and what I haven’t, I can’t recall when I last read any mermaid or fae books. That’s not to say that I don’t like them, but that I probably read less of those creatures than any others.

Thanks for the giveaway! I’m following by email!

I really didn’t like Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter, she’s the only character in a book I’ve wanted to just skip the pages they were on.

  38. Denise Z October 21, 2012 at 12:47 am #

I cannot really say there are any, as I love to hate the baddies and if there is a book or character I generally do not care for, unless I read it very recently, I generally do not keep them in my brain catalog. I have, however, still searching for a gods and goddesses book to impress me 😉 Thank you for participating in this fun hop! I am thinking that Frost Arch and Flamethroat are looking pretty awesome.

  39. Sweety October 21, 2012 at 7:15 am #

    Definitely Umbridge from HP Series.

I’m going to get a bit of grief for this, I’m sure, but I don’t like any of the characters in the Twilight saga… Vampires are not supposed to sparkle in the sun… they are supposed to burst into flames!
