Coming Up — Me Tarzan–You Jane — Virtual Book Tour+Giveaway

6 Feb

metarzanyoujanetourbanner-1

It’s been a long time since I went on a virtual book tour for any of my books, mostly because I haven’t had a new release in two years. That doesn’t mean I haven’t written, quite the opposite. I finished 4 new stories since then, but I just can’t seem to find it in me to go again through the publishing and marketing phases which take time, effort, and energy, and I’d rather focus all of that toward the writing process rather than publishing (after all I’m a writer not a salesperson).

I love the flux of books published on a daily basis. Books in all genres, for old or young, everything for everyone’s taste, with the touch of a button. Wikipedia claims there were over 300,000 books published in 2013. That means there are over 800 books published daily. Add to that Amazon changing the  best-sellers list hourly, promotional adds, you can only imagine how easily books like mine get lost beneath the swelling tide of all other books.

Luckily for me there are people who organize book tours regardless of the publishing date. So I decided to re-invigorate my latest novel titled Me Tarzan–You Jane, by employing Giselle’s help at Xpresso Book Tours for a week long book tour.

When she meets Bentley and Rawson Law, brothers with wounds of their own, life veers off course from her plans. A clean, heart-pounding romance and redemption story.

Praise for Between Hope and the Highway

“Stastny has weaved an endearing tale with Between Hope and the Highway. It is a beautiful story about love, loss, redemption, and forgiveness of not only others, but most importantly, ourselves. This is more than a love story, it is a story of family and coming together.” –Jennifer Peel, author

“…an epic tale of romance, unconditional love, redemption, and the power of the human spirit to survive and transform amidst adversity. The metamorphosis of the hero makes this a highly gratifying read. He grows with each flip of the page, leaving behind a trail of optimism. This book will make you smile as you witness a true change of heart.” – Taylor Dean, author

As I finished loading the last horse, Rawson materialized and wrapped his arms around me again. I jumped as he nestled his stubbled chin into my neck. The tingling sensation he evoked sent delightful shivers clear down to my toes.

“You ready to go, babycakes?”
Goosebumps erupted as he rubbed his chin against my neck. I tried to escape, but Blondie stood nearby and Rawson acted for all he was worth. Twisting me, he pulled me close and leaned in to kiss me. I threw my hand over my mouth just before his lips made contact. At this angle, the bimbo couldn’t tell he kissed the back of my hand quite passionately. Thank goodness for small mercies. I might have passed out if he’d gone at my lips with such gusto.
When he paused to wink at me, I whispered, “I hate your guts.”
His blue-green eyes crinkled. “I know.” He grabbed my slobbery hand and said over his shoulder, “It was a pleasure meeting you, Kelsey.” He doffed his hat and closed the trailer. Opening my door, he helped me inside his flashy truck. “There you go, sweetheart.”
When he climbed in the driver’s side, I hauled off and punched his leg. “I can’t believe you kissed my hand like that.”
“I was going for your lips.”
“Gross!”
He laughed. Glancing out the window and catching Kelsey watching us like lab rats, he leaned over to peck my cheek.
“Kiss me again and I’ll deck you,” I said between clenched teeth.
“It might be worth it, especially if you move your hand.”
“You’re impossible.”
He waved as we pulled away from the arena. “I owe you big time for saving me from that blond nightmare. Thanks for playing along.”
“You kind of forced me to,” I grumped.
His grin caused havoc in my heart. “Did you see her face when you said all that garbage about what thing implied? It was difficult to keep a straight face.”
I stuck my tongue out, making him chortle.
“Ah, Lizzie, you’re all right.”
“And you’re an idiot.”

Countdown to Cover Reveal–Part 6–Excerpt from A World Apart

23 May

Ever since I embarked on this journey to revamp the cover for my military romance A WORLD APART I began re-reading the book and I’m so falling in love with David and Cassandra’s story all over again! These two had so much chemistry, even during a match of kickboxing, sparks flew left and right. Below another excerpt I hope you’ll enjoy and maybe who knows, convince you to pick up the book and read it.

And don’t forget to return for the grand cover reveal scheduled for May 25th. I’d be delighted if you stopped by to see it and to enter a giveaway for a $25.00 gift card at a retailer of your choice (Amazon, B&N or Starbucks 😉 )

A WORLD APART–Excerpt

“Man, you’re hitting me already and the match hasn’t even started.”

Cassandra rolled her blue eyes, shaking her head. Smiling, she took several steps back. “Get ready to get your butt whooped,” and in saying that, she took the fighting position, both arms raised to guard her chin, feet apart.

“That’s a big word for a little girl like you.” David put the boxing gloves on, tightened them and took the same position, facing her.

“Which one, butt or whooped?” She jabbed at him once, twice then surprised him with an uppercut. She danced around him, trying to throw him off with a pretended punch to the liver, but going for his spleen instead.

“Actually it’s whipped; whooped is slang and a little girl like you shouldn’t use such words.” He blocked another set of rapid punches.

“I’m an adult, I can use slang if I so choose. Besides, you’re not my commander here. You can’t order my mouth be washed out with soap.”

He laughed and lost momentum when she caught him off guard with two high-speed sidekicks to his upper arm, throwing him off balance. She took advantage of his wobbly position and went for the final chin jab and a knee that landed him sprawled on his back. Before falling, he hooked an arm under her elbow, taking her down with him.

She struggled to stand and to unhook her arm, but stumbled and fell on top of David. She tried to escape, laughing so hard her body shook convulsively.

She laughed. “You play dirty, David Hunt.”

“And you take advantage of being a girl.” He laughed, too. Her body felt hot on top of his, resting easily on one elbow, her right leg bent on top of his, the other resting along his right thigh. Her breasts pressed on his chest, making him aware of the growing tightness in his groin.

“I won and quit calling me a little girl. I’m not.” She punched his ribs. “I’m a woman.”

“I’ve no doubt you are a woman, a very special one, I must say.” David squeezed her leg between his, hooked both her arms and, using his body weight, rolled her onto her back, pinning her arms.

Her laughter trailed off, and her facial expression changed from relaxed to serious. Her chest rose with her breath, her skin sleek with sweat. Her blue eyes sparkled and when she licked her upper lip and then bit her lower, David lost it. He bowed his head. The hell with everything—

“You two, I said fight, not play! Two minutes,” Hulk yelled next to them.

David lifted his head for a split second to look up, pushing his body onto one elbow and rolling off Cassandra. A bucket of iced water dumped over his head would probably have the same effect as the instructor’s words.

She jumped to her feet, reaching for him. “Two minutes. Enough time to finish you, Major Hunt.”

Countdown to Cover Reveal–Part 4–Excerpt from A World Apart

Oh, and don’t forget to return on May 25th to see the new cover and to enter a giveaway for a $25.00 gift card at a retailer of your choice (Amazon, B&N or Starbucks 😉

A WORLD APART–Excerpt

“Can the bombs reach us?”

“Hope not. The battle’s miles away, but the sounds and shocks travel all the way here,” David replied, his voice low, but steady.

“I’m sorry I barged in. This is my first time going through an attack and I was too afraid to stay in my barracks alone.” She hid a yawn.

“Don’t worry. I wasn’t asleep.”

She stifled another yawn, leaning her head on his shoulder and rubbing her upper arms, yawning more.

“You can rest here, if you want,” David offered. “I can take the other bed.”

Cassandra gripped his sleeve. “Don’t leave me.” She scooted to the wall side of the bed, pulling him down next to her. “There’s plenty room for both. Please, David, stay with me.”

Cassandra’s eyes flickered in the flashing light, her mouth half open. Only a few heartbeats away, she asked for him to protect her, to stay with her, to lay with her in the same narrow cot. The last time that happened David traveled to a world unknown to him until then—Cassandra’s body, a miracle in itself, a forbidden fruit he thought he’d never taste again.

“Please, David.” On her side, she pressed against the wall.

God, have mercy. David lay on his back, stiff, afraid to breathe, afraid to move. Long, torturous seconds turned into minutes. He heard her breathing, smelled her perfume, felt her presence next to him. God, have mercy.

Cassandra pressed against him in the narrow space, resting on her side, her head on one arm, sleeping. David looked at her, still amazed she was there, so close he could touch her.

The explosions seemed further away and less frequent. Not even the voice on the PA bothered him, or the continuous siren. He pulled a blanket over them and, with Cassandra tucked against him, he fell asleep.

A bomb exploded nearby. Acting on instinct, he pulled Cassandra into his arms, covering her with his body, expecting the barracks to collapse. When that didn’t happen, he pulled up on one elbow, looking into her face. She blinked quickly, biting her lower lip.

“Sorry, I tho—”

His words disappeared behind Cassandra’s kiss—hot, desperate, hungry. Her hands held onto him for a few seconds, moved up and down the back of his head, neck and shoulders, gripping, squeezing, digging her fingernails into his flesh. She tilted her pelvis up, pressing his buttocks with her palms, moaning against his lips. Then she found refuge under his shirt, caressing his back, up his chest, over his nipples, awakening the passion for her, the fiery passion he’d restrained for so long—stronger than a reborn Phoenix.

He fought for his breath. “Jesus Christ, Cass, it’s—”

“Don’t,” her breathing elevated, “Don’t say it.”

Excerpt 1:
In this scene, Gretchen learns that Kian has a secret dream to be a carriage driver on the island. She has a dream of her own and knows the power of them, so she is determined to help him achieve his goal.

“It was a stupid dream. I should sell it, ta pay ya.” Kian jerked the covering into place and turned away.
“Nein. No.” She followed him. “Dream is not stupid. Dream is good.”
She slowed down to hit the correct sound at the end. Just so he understood.
He yanked pieces of oak from the pile near the door and dropped them into her pail.
“I help you vith your dream.” She pulled out the bigger pieces and returned them to the stack before tugging the handle from his grip. Selecting the right size for the cook stove, she filled her bucket. “You see.”
“Why?” He stared at the wood pile and huddled in his jacket.
She didn’t want to think too hard about the why. Instead, she clasped the pail to her chest and hustled for the door.
He beat her there and pushed back the snow, so she could squeeze through the opening. Before she exited, he stayed her with a hand on her arm. “Why?”
“Because I have the dreams, too. And you are helping to make them true.” She ducked under his arm and walked into the cold. More than he knew. Maybe more than was safe for her heart.

Countdown to Cover Reveal–Part 2–Excerpt from A World Apart

6 May

As I mentioned in my last post, there will be a major cover reveal on May 25th for my military romance A WORLD APART. Please don’t forget to stop by to enter a giveaway for a $25.00 gift card at a retailer of your choice (Amazon, B&N or Starbucks 😉 )

In preparation for the cover reveal here an excerpt from the novel. Happy reading!

A WORLD APART–Excerpt

“Disobedient as well as disrespectful. Not a good combination for your superior to discover on your first day at work, Lt. Toma,” David said, picking a file from his desk and browsing through it.

Distinguished is another word for someone doing a remarkable job. Expressing one’s opinions shouldn’t be considered disrespectful, but rather honesty.”

David lifted his gaze to hers, the green in his eyes turning darker. “Your file is outstanding; after your surgery, I looked at your patient. You did a really good job. However, you know you broke procedure when you performed the surgery without being assigned to do it. And you not only acted on impulse, but you dragged a very good doctor into this mess. I’ve no choice, but to write you up.”

“Major Hunt, as the joint-medical-unit commander, I am to report to you. I didn’t break protocol because I am disobedient, as you call me, but because given the circumstances, I acted as a doctor. I’m a doctor before I’m an officer. I took an oath to save every life I can, and that’s exactly what I’ve done. The only request I have is to keep Dr. Constantin out of this. His rank forced him to obey my orders.”

Jumping to his feet, his voice growing sharper, David said, “You’re in no position to ask for favors.” He slammed both hands on his desk and walked around to face her. “You put me in an extremely uncomfortable position, and no matter what I do, I’ll be damned.”

His gaze bore down on her and Cassandra felt as if he melted her with the fire in his eyes. She wet her lips instinctively and took a step backward.

“I’m sorry, Sir, I . . . I don’t understand. How did I put you in a bad position?” She said, swallowing her pride.

David pushed a hand through his close-cropped blond hair and shook his head. Taking several breaths, he leaned against his desk, folding his arms across his broad chest.

“It’s simple: if I write you up, everyone in this hospital will talk about what an asshole I am for punishing someone for doing her job. If I don’t, then someone else will break the rules and procedures, and before long, chaos will be back in this place. And believe me, this place needs rules, more than anywhere else I’ve been deployed.”

His voice sounded so bitter, Cassandra felt a bout of bile scalding the back of her throat. The room closed in on her, suddenly too small for the two of them. Swallowing a few times, she said, “I’m sorry to be such a big disappointment to you, Sir. Thank you for informing me of your intentions. If you don’t mind, my patient should be out of the anesthesia; I’d like to see him. Permission to leave, Sir.”

David sighed and, looking down, he brushed her off with a dismissive hand.

Cassandra left the office, closing the door behind her. She rested the back of her head on the door, feeling a sense of relief and anguish at the same time. The excitement she felt hours ago when she first came to the base was short lived. More so, the excitement of possibly seeing David again faded as fast as it came—they’d started on a bad foot even before they had any chance to know each other. To hell with rules . . . I save one’s life and that’s what I get.
